Chrome is to current browsers what Windows was to DOS. Twenty-three years ago Microsoft started its march from being just another software company to being, well, Microsoft. It did this by offering order in a fragmented world. Back then, you couldn't just run an app on your personal computer. There were dozens of OSes, all doing basically the same thing, just a little differently. If you wrote an app, you'd have to cater to not just OS, but sometimes to each version of an OS. Sound familiar?

Where’s the strategy behind it all? Yes, we can put together some kooky notion of how anything Google is doing leads to world domination. But is Google really just, “a freak of a company, the best advertising business ever built is funding the largest collection of mad scientists ever assembled?”
Or is there a deep strategy we just haven’t groked yet?

No, esto no va a ser una guerra contra un software, esto es una guerra total por el futuro del acceso a la información, donde podríamos estar vendiendo nuestra alma al diablo pervirtiendo nuestra privacidad si no andamos con tiento. No, esto no es guerra por un software para situarse en un rincón de nuestros escritorios, es una guerra por la Web como Sistema Operativo donde el mejor posicionado se llevará el gato al agua y donde no dejaremos de ver zancadillas e incomodidades entre las empresas desarrolladoras. Desde luego que esto es sólo es el principio.

Will Google be able to change the rules of the web user experience? With Chrome and Android, Google is getting into the big game: building a consistent and unique experience for end users as well as application designers and developers. Google is an acclaimed leader in web technologies innovation, but from the end user point of view many web applications are still nothing more than a toy for geeks.
